Moving FAQ

When it comes to relocating, no two moves are the same, so questions tend to pop up every time.  Here are some Moving FAQ that we have been asked and felt like sharing:

WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVE? DO YOU PROVIDE LONG DISTANCE MOVING SERVICES?

Funk’s Moving & Storage provides long-distance and interprovincial moving services throughout Western Canada from British Columbia to Manitoba.  Our primary service area is the Edmonton metropolitan area, including Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Leduc, Fort Saskatchewan, Vegreville, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Beaumont, Morinville, and Devon. Additional mileage charges may apply for jobs outside of these areas.

DO YOU SUBCONTRACT YOUR MOVING JOBS? DO YOU USE CASUAL LABOUR?

Funk’s Moving Storage maintains a full-time crew of experienced professional movers on payroll and does not sub-contract any moving jobs.  If we need a little extra help, we have a roster of reliable long-term temporary workers to call on.

DO YOU OFFER PACKING/UNPACKING SERVICES

Yes, Funk’s Moving & Storage offers full packing & unpacking services – feel free to leave all the work to us! Packing/unpacking services cost the price of time and materials.

DO YOU OFFER STORAGE SERVICES?

Yes, we can arrange short or long-term storage for your possessions in a secure heated warehouse with our storage partners.  We will take care of all the details and save you the hassle of dealing with a separate storage company.  All Funk’s Moving & Storage clients receive a 5% discount on storage rates.

What else should I know?

It is excellent to understand the typical questions asked when dealing with a move, but some other things to keep in mind are cost, insurances and more.  Here are some additional questions and answers that will hopefully shed some light:

DO YOU PROVIDE FREE ESTIMATES? DO YOU PROVIDE IN-HOME ESTIMATES?

Yes, all our estimates are free of charge.  At Funk’s Moving & Storage, we pride ourselves on accurate estimates, but a quote is only as good as the information provided to us by the customer.  In-home estimates provide an opportunity for the customer and service provider to meet and offer the best chance to get an accurate and comprehensive understanding of your moving needs.

DO YOU CHARGE BY THE HOUR? BY WEIGHT? BY DISTANCE?

For local moves, we charge an hourly rate based on the number of movers required.  You only pay for the time we are on the job (to the nearest half-hour).  A minimum of three hours, including travel time, is charged on each job.

For long-distance moves, additional mileage charges also apply.  To request an estimate, fill out our Estimate Request form or give us a call at 780-468-7052

WILL I BE CHARGED ANY ADDITIONAL FEES?

A fuel surcharge, any supplies used, and 5% GST get applied to all jobs.  Additional charges also apply for large items such as pianos, organs, and large televisions.  All other costs are on your estimate.

ARE YOU INSURED?

Funk’s Moving & Storage is fully insured and has WCB coverage for its employees.  Details of our insurance coverage are available on request.

ARE MY GOODS INSURED DURING THE MOVE?

All moving jobs include liability of up to $0.60 per pound per article for damaged items.  It is important to note that this rate is likely insufficient to cover most items’ replacement costs in their entirety.  Check with your Insurance Agent to see if your existing household policy covers things during your move.  If not, you may wish to purchase additional coverage.  Funk’s Moving & Storage does not offer any extra insurance coverage.
